As previously stated on other pages, when the HPG first formed in 2006, there was not a team of paranormal invesitgators based within the county conducting investigations in a regular co-ordinated manner. There also was no website purely dedicated to the ghost stories of Herefordshire. In many respects Hereford and the County seemed a little neglected with regards to the paranormal, in comparison to others, yet there was a vast amount of ghost stories and legends.
This really suprised us, as when our website went live, we received a huge amount of response with regards to the paranormal tales about Hereford. Some of these ghost stories were placed on this website and it became the first website based in Herefordshire to offer ghost stories and photographs supplied by the community .
For all those who attended our open meetings, they will remember us stating that it was always our intention to provide a database of paranormal activity reported. Because of this, at the same time we purchased the domain name www.herefordparanormal.com, back in 2006, we also purchased www.hauntedhereford.co.uk and www.herefordghosts.co.uk for this purpose. Anyone using these web addresses would have been directed to this site.
We were continuing to receive stories from the people in Herefordshire which they wanted to share. Some of these are still available on this website. This totally enthused us to move forward with out intention to have a stand alone project seperate from the Hereford Paranormal Group, but one the team could support. We listened to what people appeared to want. Requests were made for an easy to navigate website and something that was fun as well as educational. We often get enquiries from younger people with regards to the paranomral subject, so we thought this would be a good opportunity to include them too, but in a responsible manner. So a website was designed to suit all ages. We received requests even after the site went live. One such request, after the website was launched, was to create buttons so people could jump to a specific town or village. So this change was made to make it easier for people.
We waited until we had at least 50 ghost stories and paranormal tales and launched the website as you see it now back in July 2009. The number of tales has grown and soon we will be updating it with much more. The feedback since has been incredibly positive and we still get ghost stories sent to us for inclusion which is fantastic. It has been very much a community effort.
The paranormal subject since 2006 has grown within the County of Herefordshire. Other websites now exist, paranormal teams out of the area visit regularly and more within the County have began investigating the subject for themselves. Recently too a fantastic book was published and written by the author of Herefordshire Folk Tales - David Phelps titled "Haunted Hereford".
